Apple iPhone 5S and iPad 5 Launch During Apple Special Event in June

Apple is completing 6 years of its iPhone on Jun 29th, 2013. Apple had released its first iPhone on Jun 29th 2007. It was in this year when Steve Jobs had introduced iPhone to the public during a keynote presentation at the Macworld 2007 convention, in San Francisco.

With phenomenal achievement till date, Apple has decided to celebrate these grand 6 years with the launch of iPhone 5S and the iPad 5 on Jun 29th 2013. This has been confirmed through a report published in Gizmorati blog. Apple will be unveiling its iPhone 5S and iPad 5 during a special event called ‘Original Passion, New Ideas’, on June 29, 2013. The even is intended to celebrate six years from the launch of the original iPhone, under the leadership of Steve Jobs and the release of the iPhone 5S and iPad 5, under the leadership of Apple’s current CEO, Tim Cook.

Google Now for iOS Leaked Promotional Video

Just two days back, we had seen how Apple Siri was a better digital assistant in comparison to the Google Now. We could easily see it in the comparisons made. Anyways, the latest news is that Google Now App for iOS could be launched anytime soon. This became clear from one promotional video which was uploaded on YouTube. The uploaded video  showed Google Now App features for the iOS devices, iPhone and iPad. The promotional video showed Google Now major features including real time data acquisition and predictive actions. Google Now service uses a variety of information about a user—everything from emails to their current location—to display potentially useful information like real time navigation rerouting, air travel updates and sports scores.

The promotional video for Google Now iOS App was pulled minutes later after it was uploaded on YouTube. But here you can check out the same video below -

Apple Siri or Google Now - Which is a Better Digital Assistant ?

Apple Siri or Google Now - Which is a better digital assistant? From my own experience, both are  good but I would still rate Siri higher above Google Now. Apple Siri and Google Now both provide digital assistance of the highest standard yet there's a common limitation with both these services. Both require internet connection to work properly even for the basic tasks such as setting alarm on your phone.

Keeping limitations aside, Apple Siri does a better job by more chattier and responsive than Google Now. Google Now mostly comes with a list of websites when any query is made. Its more like a regular web search we perform on the internet. Its very rare when Google Now comes out with a loud response. Unlike Siri, most of the response from Google Now is in the form of web results.

Apple Siri does exceedingly better when searched for restaurants. It has been made possible after Apple's partnerships with the reviews site Yelp and restaurant-reservation service OpenTable. A simple question made about Italian restaurants returned details of several restaurants with information on price range, average user ratings on Yelp and distance from your current location. Infact, Siri even lets you book hotels by giving you a few choices with open spots.

One area where Siri doesn't give you much options is movie ticket booking. You can though check for tickets and showtimes but for buying tickets on iPhone, users require software update to iOS 6.1.

Siri is also better at integrating with phone calendar and alarm clock letting you get valid responses anytime which is not the same case with Google Now which depends mostly on results fetched from web sites.

Another most important thing noticed with Apple's Siri is that its a click away. You just tap on the home screen and here it launches while with Google Now, it appears more like hide and seek thing. The search box and microphone button both keeps appearing and disappearing most of the times.

Well, whatever maybe...both Apple Siri and Google Now are quite good at most of the things. While Siri has been around for more than a year, Google Now is relatively new into this business. So, it may take some time before Google Now is in a better position to compete with Apple Siri.

Its now actually the beginning of seeing what voice search and virtual assistants can do. I am sure that there's lot to come in the days ahead..!

Apple iPad mini 2 Leaked Images

A Chinese forum named WeiPhone had leaked images of Apple's upcoming iPad mini 2. These images were leaked in the last week of February 2013. Looking at these leaked images and considering latest reports, we can say that the next generation of Apple iPad mini 2 is going to have a slightly thicker build and it may also get a high-resolution ‘Retina’ display.

From the images shown below, we can see the back of the upcoming Apple iPad mini 2. The blue colored apple logo means that the device is still in the pre-production phase. Most of us may wonder if these leaked images are genuine or counterfeit. Well, WeiPhone has been an accurate source for leaked Apple devices in the past and so these leaks of purported Apple iPad mini 2 do appear to be genuine.

We may have to wait till April 2013 when Apple may formally announce its iPad mini 2 along with other anticipated devices like iPad 5. And following the same, we may also see iPhone 5S in the next month in the August 2013..!

Apple Cheaper iPhone Price Disclosed

Is Apple working on a cheaper iPhone? Well, maybe yes. Though the cheaper iPhone from Apple is yet to confirmed, we have this report coming from Japanese blog, Macotakara that Apple is keeping the pricing of its cheaper iPhone to $330.

The report also says that the build quality of the cheaper iPhone will not be the same as what we have been seeing with the existing apple phones. The cheaper version of the apple iPhone will come with a polycarbonate body instead of glass and aluminum in the body casing. Polycarbonate body was used with the earlier versions of MacBook but now it is discontinued.

The polycarbonate material to be used with cheaper iPhone is glossy and is likely to make the rumored cheaper iPhone thicker and sturdier than iPhone 5.

Well, the pricing of the cheaper looks good to me. Only question we have now - Is Apple really working on the same? Are we really going to see cheaper iPhones from Apple in future?

Apple has created another history. As per the latest report, Apple has topped 1 billion downloads for its iTunes U courses where 60% of the downloads came from the United States alone and the remaining comes from more than 155 countries, including Brazil, South Korea and China. More than 60 millions downloads have come from the Standford university itself. Apple's iTunes U has more than 250,000 students enrolled in the free educational courses. More than 2,500 courses on a variety of topics have been contributed by over 1,200 universities and college including universities such as Yale, Cambridge, Oxford and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The iTunes U was introduced in the year 2007 and Apple had launched iphone and ipad app for the same during last year in January. The app allows teachers to create syllabi, post lecture notes and share videos with their students.

Well, Apple has been contributing a lot to the educational sector especially the growth of online classes. The Khan Academy which is one of the Apple's initiative has served more than 239 million students as per the report published in Washington Academy.

Hope we can see more things coming from Apple in the times to come. Tim Cook, Apple CEO has also made it clear by saying that apple is working as hard as ever and there's lots of exciting stuff coming..!!

Samsung Mega Advertising Campaign Against Apple in India

Just a few days back we had seen how Apple fortunes have begun to change in India with the company achieving over 400% of growth rate in India in last 2-3 months. Apple has been able to boost its sales in India considerably by employing aggressive sales strategies. It is mostly through easy EMI payment options Apple has been able to increase the sale of its products in India in fourfolds. Apple's EMI payment options backed up by an aggressive advertising blitzkrieg has done wonders for the company.

Now, Samsung is seen following similar strategy to counter attack Apple by launching a mega advertisement campaign and reintroducing EMI scheme for its high-end phones. As per a quote Asim Warsi, vice-president at Samsung Mobile -
We sense a strong interest amongst consumers for our high-end devices and based on our learnings from last year, we have re-introduced the EMI scheme for our bouquet of Galaxy devices.
Samsung EMI plan covers popular models such as Galaxy Note II, Galaxy Grand, Galaxy SIII and Galaxy Camera. As per Himanshu Chakrawarti, CEO at Essar Group's The Mobile Store, the country's largest cellphone retailer with 800 stores -
Unlike Apple, the Samsung EMI scheme will cover much wider sales network including the neighborhood mobile phone retail stores, and hence the impact is surely going to be big.
Samsung has planned to extend its marketing campaign for more than a month, to the digital media and inside retail stores. The new campaign has made Galaxy Note II match the EMI payment of iPhone 5. The iPhone 5 is available at a down payment of Rs 16,990 and EMI of Rs 2,376 for 12 months while the Galaxy Note II is sold for 12 EMIs of Rs 2,999. Samsung has started its first ever EMI campaign with the launch of its Galaxy S3 handset last September in 2012.

Well, the fight between Apple and Samsung is getting fiercer day by day where one would still feel that Samsung has an edge over Apple..!

Apple Hacked by Facebook Hackers

Apple recently faced what is said to be one of the biggest ever cyber attacks on its system where some of the Macintosh system of its employees was infected by a group of hackers. It all happened when a group of Apple workers visited a website of software developers that had been infected with malicious software. The malware software was actually designed to infect Mac computers.

This is the second biggest cyber attack in last few days. Earlier facebook was targeted by some unknown hackers who exploited a flaw in a version of Oracle Corp's Java software which is used as a plug-in on Web browsers.

As per Apple, the same malware was used to attack Mac systems run by other companies.
Hundreds of companies, including defense contractors, had been infected with the same malicious software, or malware. Below is a statement coming from the Apple spokesperson after recent attacks -
Apple has identified malware which infected a limited number of Mac systems through a vulnerability in the Java plug-in for browsers. The malware was employed in an attack against Apple and other companies, and was spread through a website for software developers.

We identified a small number of systems within Apple that were infected and isolated them from our network. There is no evidence that any data left Apple.
Apple has also confirmed that it was working closely with law enforcement to find the culprits and also is planning to release a piece of software on Tuesday which customers can use to identify and repair Macs infected with the malware used in the attacks.

Well, this is very unsual and rare for hackers to target Mac but seems that with growing market share of Macintosh over Microsoft corp, hackers are now diverted towards Macs now to fulfill their evil objectives.

Anyways, it is never too late. You can keep your Mac safe easily by following these simple tips as mentioned in this post. Hope you find it useful. Please feel free to add your points too if you have any.

Earlier the company had launched its iTunes Store for India where it is selling high-definition movies at prices starting from Rs. 490.

Well, it is too early to say if Apple TV will be successful in India as it is competing with Micromax’s Smart Stick, Akai’s Smart Box and other cheaper offerings from Western Digital and a host of other cheaper Android and custom-OS based media players/streamers. Though some of these are really good at content playing, still one biggest advantage Apple has is its seamless iTunes Store integration which can be a real decider in the times to come..!

Apple MacBook Price Reduced Upto $200

Apple has made some significant reduction in the prices of its MacBook range of laptops. As per the latest report, 13 inch Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display is now priced at $1,499 while the 13-inch MacBook Air laptop is now available at $1,299 with 256 gigabytes of flash memory. The 13 inch Apple MacBook Pro now is also available with a new 2.6 gigahertz processor, 256 gigabytes flash memory version at a price of $1,699.

Also, there is a news that Apple 15-inch MacBook Pro has been upgraded with a faster 2.4 gigahertz quad-core processor and the top-end 15-inch notebook with a new 2.7 gigahertz quad-core processor and 16GB of memory.

The reduced pricing from Apple is seen with the dismal looking sales of Macbook in the holiday quarter. One of the major reasons for the same is the growing popularity of Apple iPad which has looked to be a good alternative to MacBooks though not as as versatile as the MacBooks.

Anyways. the price cut looks to be good step. Hope this helps Apple in selling more MacBooks this year..!

Apple CEO Tim Cook upbeat on Apple's Future

Apple CEO Tim Cook believes that Apple still has the same innovation and magic.

As per his latest statements -
Apple remains ahead of its rivals in the ability to innovate and "create magic" despite tougher competition in key sectors like smartphones and tablets. Apple still has strong growth opportunities because of its ability to work simultaneously on hardware, software and services, brushing aside suggestions that Apple has passed its peak.

Apple has the ability to innovate in all three of these spheres and create magic.
At the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference, he was seen quoted -
This isn't something you can just write a check for. This is something you build over decades. I remain upbeat on Apple's ability to boost sales of its popular iPhones and iPads in markets around the world. I'm incredibly bullish about the future and what Apple can do. Apple has skills in hardware, in software and in services ... There is no better place for innovation.
Regarding cheaper products in future, he said -
Our North Star is always great products, not how to hit a price point.
About competition with rival products, he came up with this statement -
Customers want a great experience, and they want quality, and they want that 'aha' moment. What Apple does is sweat every detail... The customer experience is always broader than what can be defined by a simple number.
On threat from Android devices, he said -
The iPad has been measured to be used "twice as much as the total of every Android device... It's because it's an incredible experience."
Well, it looks as if there's nothing much to worry for Tim Cook as per his statements. It could be exciting to see how Apple goes ahead with these thoughts..!

Price cuts for Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2 in India

Good news for Samsung phone buyers in India. Two of the Samsung's most popular smartphones, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 are getting price cuts here in India. Now, both the smartphones are available at a price much lower than their official cost.

Samsung Galaxy S3 16GB is now available at Rs 29,480 while at some places, the same is available ar Rs 27,499. The phone was launched officially in May2012 at the price tag of Rs.43,000 and from then till date, it has been one of the top sellers in smartphones. Over 30 million Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphones have been sold till date. The last price cut for Galaxy S3 was made in Dec2012.

One the other hand, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is now available at Rs 35,600 while it was originally launched at a price tag of Rs 39,900. Some online retailers are retailing the device for Rs 34,900. No doubt, Note 2 is another successful Android device from Samsung. Within two months of its launch, Note 2 sales rose to 5 million mark worldwide...an amazing feat !!

A question comes to the mind - Why price cuts from Samsung all of a sudden?

One of the major reasons for the same is the sudden spurt in the sales of Apple products in India. Apple fetched a sale of over 300% in last 3 months in India which is what could be a matter of concern for Samsung and other mobile vendors in India. Apple is getting aggressive with its extensive advertising and marketing campaign for its iPhone and has started selling its iPhone 5, iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 with EMI options thus making it a lot easier for people to buy the same.

Apple is also planning to launch iPhone 5S in the middle of this year....that could really heat up the competition...!!

Leaked First Images of Apple iPhone 5S

Here are the first leaks of upcoming Apple iPhone 5S. These leaks were posted on a blog on Chinese website Zol.com.cn and are allegedly taken from a Foxconn plant. These images look quite good but are not very detailed.

From these leaked images, you can get both front and rear view of the upcoming iPhone 5S thus make a rough idea of the Apple iPhone 5S. Looks as if there isn't any major change with the Apple's existing design. The same design is likely to continue with the iPhone 5S.

Apple iPhone 6 Spotted along with iPhone 5S

Just a few days back, I had a post on upcoming iPhone 6. Now going back to the same...we have this latest news that this iPhone 6 could be the real thing from Apple. Upcoming iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 were spotted for the first time at the facility of an Apple supplier.

Both iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 were spotted by Old Yao, a chinese user who said that one of his friends who works with an iPhone supplier saw both these phone models there. Yao has mentioned the details of the same on his own microblogging site. As per him, the iPhone 5S is pretty similar to iPhone 5 while the iPhone 6 is more longer, wider and thinner. Both these phones would be launched this year.

The iPhone 6 rumor now looks to be true. As per the Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst with KGI Securities has quoted earlier about iPhone 6 -
Apple is working on an iPhone 5 successor that will have new features like snappier processor, fingerprint sensor, better camera and more powerful LED flash. The second iPhone will be cheaper and will be same as iPhone 5 but will be a little stockier. Instead of the aluminium body and waistline of 7.6mm, the cheaper iPhone will have a plastic casing and measure 8.2mm around the sides. The device will be available in six colours.
Well, too much and too early. Let us keep our fingers crossed !!

Apple Shows Strong Sales in India

Apple has been successful all over all world but it hasn't be the same case in countries like India and China. But now, it seems things are improving for Apple in a country like India where Apple is getting aggressive day by day. This aggression is one of the major reasons why Apple was able to fetch a sale of over 300% in last 3 months in India.

As per Jayanth Kolla, founder and partner at Convergence Catalyst, a telecom research firm -
Apple is doing what it did in China three or four years ago. They studied the market, learned consumer needs and suddenly went aggressive. From having about 30 people here six months ago, Apple India is now about 150-people strong.
The latest IDC report says that sales of Apple devices, especially iPhones, have gone up by 3-4 times in India over past three months. This is because of the open distribution model where Apple has signed up with distributors Remington and Ingram Micro to target Asia-pacific market with strong focus on China and India.

Redington which handles 70% of Apple sales in India made a little over Rs 400 crore in the December quarter thus surprised analysts with better-than-expected revenue from iPhone shipments. The sudden spurt in sales was attributed to the full page iPhone-related newspaper advertisements.

As per JK Jaishankar, managing director of Ingram Micro India, one of the largest distributors of electronic merchandise -
It is a joint effort by Apple and its distributors. While other brands have an in-house team for advertisements, Apple does that through its partners,
As per the latest report, Some 251 million phones are expected to be sold in India this year.  And Apple in India is competing against Samsung and other small players. Apple has a negligible share of the local smartphone market, where Samsung is the clear leader...!

Apple seems to be doing whatever it can but the need of the hour is to have a broad range of products which Apple doesn't have. As per Anshul Gupta, principal research analyst at Gartner -
Aggressive marketing and a push with distributors can increase brand visibility and connect, but they would need a broader portfolio for increasing market share.

Apple's People Mobile ATM Idea

People Mobile ATM.... Apple may be working on the same. This is the latest report received about Apple's ongoing work. Not sure if its true or not but this could be a real game changer for Apple. The "ad-hoc cash-dispensing network" as termed by Apple could revolutionize the way we lend and receive money from people in a network. The application begins from a simple tap where you mention the total amount you need. As soon as the amount is defined, the software analyzes location details of the user and broadcasts request so that everyone else with the app in the vicinity is notified of your presence. Once a person has agreed to pay you the money, you are notified about the person's location where you can go and collect the cash.

Apple is also testing out the possibilities of integrating the app with a map where bankers would be given options in signs like star, question and cross so as to agree, ask or disagree respectively. Once you have found your creditor, you confirm on your iPhone that the transfer has taken place and your iTunes account is debited, it added. A small service charge as well as total cash amount is credited to the creditors account.

Apple also takes a slice of the service charge for getting people together for a transaction. Thus, win win situation for all.

Well, I cannot wait any longer to see this app in the market. Surely...could be revolutionary and  right answer for those who say Apple lacks innovation..!!

Apple Blocks Java on Mac

Java is now blocked on Apple Mac. An update to Apple's XProtect now blocks all versions of Java on OS X 10.6 (aka Snow Leopard). Apple has made this decision after major security hole was discovered in the java code earlier in the last month. Oracle had first denied about any such flaw in the code but was later was made to admit issues with the code. A code patch (with the obligatory offers to install crapware at the same time) was released by the company but it was of no use.

Apple has to block code twice followed by other players who have also decided to get rid of Java as far as possible. The biggest problem lies with security issues which has been dogging Java lately causing more problems than ever before.

Even browser manufacturers like Mozilla are stepping up against Java. Mozilla recently announced that it was ending the auto-loading of plug-ins for Firefox, not really naming Java though.

Well, it seems that Java is having a tough period with increasing numbers of people removing it as a precaution. Its high time now for Oracle to sort out their issues once and for all as Apple's decision to block the java code could have adverse affects for Oracle in the long run..!
