Apple Siri or Google Now - Which is a better digital assistant? From my own experience, both are good but I would still rate Siri higher above Google Now. Apple Siri and Google Now both provide digital assistance of the highest standard yet there's a common limitation with both these services. Both require internet connection to work properly even for the basic tasks such as setting alarm on your phone.
Keeping limitations aside, Apple Siri does a better job by more chattier and responsive than Google Now. Google Now mostly comes with a list of websites when any query is made. Its more like a regular web search we perform on the internet. Its very rare when Google Now comes out with a loud response. Unlike Siri, most of the response from Google Now is in the form of web results.
Apple Siri does exceedingly better when searched for restaurants. It has been made possible after Apple's partnerships with the reviews site Yelp and restaurant-reservation service OpenTable. A simple question made about Italian restaurants returned details of several restaurants with information on price range, average user ratings on Yelp and distance from your current location. Infact, Siri even lets you book hotels by giving you a few choices with open spots.
One area where Siri doesn't give you much options is movie ticket booking. You can though check for tickets and showtimes but for buying tickets on iPhone, users require software update to iOS 6.1.
Siri is also better at integrating with phone calendar and alarm clock letting you get valid responses anytime which is not the same case with Google Now which depends mostly on results fetched from web sites.
Another most important thing noticed with Apple's Siri is that its a click away. You just tap on the home screen and here it launches while with Google Now, it appears more like hide and seek thing. The search box and microphone button both keeps appearing and disappearing most of the times.
Well, whatever maybe...both Apple Siri and Google Now are quite good at most of the things. While Siri has been around for more than a year, Google Now is relatively new into this business. So, it may take some time before Google Now is in a better position to compete with Apple Siri.
Its now actually the beginning of seeing what voice search and virtual assistants can do. I am sure that there's lot to come in the days ahead..!
